Sustainability

We're a TOITŪ Carbon Reduce certified organisation

ContainerCo is proud to be a New Zealand leader in sustainability within the shipping container servicing and logistics industry.

We have achieved certification under the globally recognised Toitū Carbon Reduce Programme, reflecting our commitment to measuring, managing, and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Accreditation demonstrates our active role in supporting the decarbonisation of the NZ supply chain and our dedication to continuous environmental improvement.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our sustainability initiatives, please contact us at environment@containerco.nz.

Sustainability is not just a focus area for us – it’s how we show up every day. This mindset underpins our commitment to operating responsibly, reducing our environmental impact, and supporting a more sustainable supply chain.

We are very proud to be a TOITŪ Carbon Reduce certified organisation, reflecting our commitment to bench-marking, managing, and reducing our emissions.

We are committed to delivering practical sustainability outcomes through initiatives such as solar energy installations, the introduction of electric vehicles and low emission equipment, and leveraging rail connectivity to reduce reliance on road transport and lower overall emissions.

Fleet & Equipment Electrification

A key driver in our commitment to sustainability is the ongoing electrification of our fleet and machinery. We already have several EV trucks in our ContainerLink transport fleet and will continue to invest in this area. We are proud to have recently ordered New Zealand’s first Kalmar Electric Empty Container Handler, for our new Tauriko container depot.

Pioneering Water-Based Paint

Our service teams have pioneered the use of water-based paint systems in our container servicing (vs. acrylic paint) which is considerably friendlier for our people and the planet. This is evidence of our commitment to finding ways to do things better every day.

Leveraging Rail Connectivity

Connectivity to New Zealand’s rail network helps ContainerCo move significant volumes, with reduced emissions. This is not only good from an overall capacity viewpoint, but strategically it is important in helping us to support our partners with their Scope 3 Emission Management programmes.

Solar Energy Generation

We have successfully piloted the introduction of solar energy generation at our Mt Maunganui depot, and this has been a game-changer in supporting a number of key decarbonisation initiatives we have on site.  These include our innovative 3-tier Reefer PTI towers and the electrification of fleet & equipment.

“At Maersk we are wholly committed to taking the global leadership role in the decarbonisation of logistics. We have a goal to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our organisation by 2040. We richly value our partnership with ContainerCo, who demonstrate many of the same values and commitments around sustainability, and continue to find ways in which to walk the talk across their New Zealand network.”
