ContainerLink – Specialist container transport across New Zealand

ContainerLink is the specialist transport division of ContainerCo. We offer a multi-modal 24-hour empty and full container haulage service across the country, to ensure our shipping line clients, importers & exporters, and freight forwarders are always covered.

Within our road fleet we have an ideal mix of company-owned trucks, an exceptional team of dedicated owner-operators, and a network of sub-contractor partners who support us in peak times of the year. We also work to leverage rail transport wherever possible, given the obvious benefits of moving volume fast and sustainably, for our clients.

Ready to deliver agile solutions

Dedicated Capacity

Our ContainerLink team is passionate about making magic happen for our shipping line clients. We care, and we want to be recognised as the best transport team in the industry in New Zealand. Our highly experienced team find innovative ways to deliver our clients the most effective and sustainable transport options possible, balanced with price and speed to market.

GOLD IN THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE

Comprehensive coverage where it matters most

As a trusted, specialist transport partner to the world’s leading shipping lines, we are committed to delivering reliable, trouble-free repositioning and evac of containers across the strategically important logistics ‘golden triangle’ – the heart of New Zealand’s freight network.

We also serve key areas like Hawke’s Bay, and we continue to invest in our South Island transport network. Our long-term goal is a fully electric fleet in Canterbury, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable logistics.

ROAD & RAIL: COMPLEMENTARY CONNECTIVITY

The right transport solution at the right time

Our ContainerLink team leverages rail transport for our clients’ containers where possible and most practical. Rail access to ports is typically more cost-effective than road access. Rail also allows us to move significant volume in a more sustainable manner which is increasingly important to our partners in meeting their Scope 3 emission reduction targets.

Many ContainerCo depots feature integrated rail sidings or are located adjacent to major ports and inland ports, allowing for seamless multimodal transfers. We continue to expand our rail-access footprint to better serve our national client base.

SUSTAINABILITY

Electrification of our ContainerLink fleet

Since 2023, our ContainerLink team has been actively working towards the electrification of our truck fleet. We have introduced several new EV trucks into our Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay fleets, and these are proving to be highly successful. Our plan is to continue our electrification programme on a wider basis across the country.

Our EV fleet is well supported by new fast charging infrastructure to ensure less down-time and guarantee the most efficient use of these environmentally friendly assets.

The adoption of EV heavy haulage technology is not only important for ContainerCo in meeting its own Scope 1 sustainability objectives, but also in supporting our clients in meeting their Scope 3 Emissions reduction targets.

Across our owner-driver and sub-contractor partner fleet, diesel trucks are predominantly late model vehicles which meet some of the highest of current emission standards.

TAILORED TECHNOLOGY

State-of-the-art transport management

Our experienced operations teams are based in Auckland and Tauranga and utilise a tailored transport management system with fully integrated GPS. This ensures we can manage our customers’ requirements locally, regionally and nationally, responding quickly and efficiently to customer demand, changes and queries.

We recently introduced Optical Character Recognition [OCR] technology into our Napier depot. This seamless, automated gate-in process significantly improves both speed and accuracy, reducing processing time and enhancing overall operational efficiency. More importantly, it allows for earlier identification of inconsistencies, such as incorrect containers or truck details, enabling proactive management before vehicles depart the site.

In a second phase of the OCR project, ContainerCo has started leveraging machine learning to further elevate service standards. The system will be capable of automatically assessing container damage based on globally recognised industry standards, another step forward in improving reliability and consistency in depot operations.
