Our ContainerCo ‘Can-Do’ attitude was shining bright in the BOP recently when MSC had a major issue when unloading at Port of Tauranga. A container snagged and ripped out the guide rails, buckling the container roof, and MSC was faced with not being able to remove the import container, or the 2 boxes underneath – and depart deep sea with the tangle still in place, and seek assistance at an offshore shipyard.
Carwyn Morgan, our Business Improvement Manager, was informed of the issue around 7am, and he quickly came up with a solution to brace the buckled container, giving it structural integrity to complete a crane lift at port.
With so much to consider and factor into the repair – slips, falls, hot work sparks, and what was in the other containers that could ignite – our team did us proud, having the container lifted and onto a Mafi trailer around 4.30pm the same day.
This was a massive win for our relationship with MSC – as it was a significant face-saving moment for them, and their import clients – not to mention the actual financial saving that was realised. Huge props to our Tauranga team. You continue to do us proud!
“The work Carwyn & Danger did was excellent and resulted in 3 x Tauranga imports successfully landed rather than being left onboard a vessel sailing deep sea which would have incurred weeks of delay before they could get back to Tauranga. We can all guess the importers’ reaction to that news.”
